ART BEAT: National group selects 3 pieces of art from Spenard artist

By MIKE DUNHAM                          Daily News Arts editor

Three pieces by Spenard artist Don Ricker were elected for the Americans for the Arts Public Art Network Salon des Refuses presented Thursday in Baltimore in advance of the groups 50th annual conference.
Ricker's pieces --- an outhouse, a set of metal ptarmigans winging over a stair and a bicycling dinosaur --- were among the works by 133 artists from 11 countries accepted into the show.
Contributors included famous names, unknowns and people from way out yonder, like Alaska.
PAN bills itself as "the only professional network in the United Stated dedicated to the field of public art." More information is available at the AforA website and Ricker's own blog, artsceneak.net.

The Outhouse of Unrequited Ideas

Artbeat

Thanks to Mr Dunham and the Anchorage Daily News   What actually happened is that artist and curator A Stuart Keeler included three digital images in a slide show shown to attendees at the American for the Arts 50th asnnual convention in Baltimore MD. The curator requested images of unrealized public art proposals, and the Outhouse of Unrequited Ideas is wallpapered with them, as well as with the accompanying rejections.
Keeler's presentation was titled Salon des Refusés --- Sights Unseen.
